Haute Hippie, Neiman Marcus helped the Shuzz Fund raise enough money for children in need of shoes and medical treatment in 2015
Boca Raton, FL – April 30, 2015 – The Shuzz Fund, a non-profit organization that provides shoes to children in poverty-stricken areas, today announced it raised $175,000 at the V Annual SHUZZ | ART | FASHION Show. The event brought people from all over South Florida and other areas to celebrate the nonprofit’s accomplishments with its first Medical Mission, while raising money to keep the charity in business for another year. Neiman Marcus presented a Haute Hippie runway show, and Cirque Dreams put on a performance that wowed the crowd at Boca Raton’s Mizner Park Amphitheater.
The VIP section sponsored by Celebrity Cruises and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek was buzzing with activity, as were the dozens of silent auction and area restaurant tables.
“The event would not be possible without the generosity of all sponsors, most notably Neiman Marcus, Celebrity Cruises, and Seminole Casino,” said Rita Lombardo, Founder and Board Member, Shuzz Fund. “Our board, committee and chairs worked tirelessly for months to pull this off. Our one full time employee lead the charge. Everyone went above and beyond this year and we’re already planning the show for 2016!”
The first Shuzz Medical Mission made this year’s event even more special than the last four years. The Shuzz Fund launched its Medical Relief Department in November of 2014 and in February of 2015 performed surgery on a four year old boy named Akem. Members of the Shuzz Board travelled to Guyana and met Akem and his Mother. The organization organized travels for Akem and his Mother to come to the United States for Akem to receive world class medical treatment at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach, FL. One of our Board Members conducted the surgery to correct Akem’s internal tibial torsion, bowlegged and metatarsus adductus. Akem made an appearance at the show – onstage and in the front row watching the models and Cirque Dreams performers.
